BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 14-year-old has pled guilty to carjacking in the death of Battle Creek Central High School senior Jack Snyder in February 2023.
The felony murder charge against Dewond Estes the Third was dropped in exchange for the guilty plea.
Calhoun County Assistant Prosecutor James Jordan said Snyder’s family was aware of the plea deal and was satisified with it. An uncle said he did not want the family to sit through a long trial and have to see crime scene photos as they relive his murder.
Estes was 13 when he was charged with Snyder’s murder as an adult.
Justice Chimner admitted to police that he pulled the trigger to kill Snyder when he was 14 and was also charged as an adult. His trial is scheduled to start January 21, 2025 and he is charged with open murder, carjacking, and felony firearm.
The sentencing for Estes has not been scheduled.
