KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 37-year-old man has been sentenced to 28 to 60 years in prison for a fatal shooting in Kalamazoo last November.
Laquay Lee Woodford-Paige was sentenced Monday after being found guilty by a jury in August in connection with the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Kemberlyn Dwayne Trotman November. 4, 2023.
Woodford-Paige was issued the following sentences:
• Second-degree murder – lesser offense: 28 to 60 years
• Felony firearm: two years
• Discharge of a firearm at a building causing death: 14 to 30 years
• Felony firearm: two years
• Discharge of a firearm at a building: five to 10 years
• Felony firearm: two years
The shooting took place in the 800 block of Woodbury Avenue. Officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to reports of multiple gunshots and found Trotman with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a local hospital but did not survive.
Witnesses told police that Mr. Woodford-Paige was firing two weapons at a group of people and nearby homes when Trotman was hit.
