PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Utilizing drones and cellphone GPS data, Portage Public Safety Police and Fire personnel were able to safely locate a man who had become disoriented and lost while hunting in the Gourdneck State Game Area Sunday night.
Portage Police say they received a call around 8:30 p.m. about the lost man. Drone pilots then collaborated with rescue personnel by directing them to the lost man’s location. Contact was made with the man, a 67-year-old Portage resident, at approximately 9:40 p.m. and he was safely extricated from the woods an hour later, unharmed.
The Portage Department of Public Safety was assisted by the Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority and South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority.
