LANSING, MI — The Michigan State Police (MSP) will honor one of their own today. A highway dedication ceremony will be held for trooper Caleb Starr. Starr was struck by a drunk driver and killed in the line of duty in Ionia County in July 2020.
Today the state will name a stretch of Lansing area freeway after Trooper Starr. A section of US-127, between the Cedar Street exit and I-96 in Ingham County will be dedicated as “Trooper Starr Memorial Highway.”
The ceremony will take place at Hayes Park at noon. Starr’s name has already been added to the fallen trooper memorial at the MSP’s Dimondale headquarters. The Michigan State Police Fallen Trooper Memorial honors all members of the Michigan State Police who have died in the line of duty, regardless of rank, enlisted, or civilian status. A total of 56 MSP Troopers have died in the line of duty, according to MSP.
