LEE TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 23-year-old Allegan County man is in custody after police say he accidently shot his girlfriend during an argument, then fled the scene.
Allegan Central Dispatch received a call Saturday from a home on 105th Avenue in Lee Township about a pregnant female with a gunshot wound. The Lee Township contract deputy arrived on scene and started first aid to the victim.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office says the 31-year-old victim from the Pullman area was in an argument with her 23-year-old boyfriend. During the argument the boyfriend had a pistol and it went off, striking the female in the abdomen and leg.
The boyfriend then left the scene in a reported stolen motorcycle. Deputies were able to locate the firearm and made contact with the suspect over the phone while continuing to try and locate him. After several tips from the community, the boyfriend was located Monday and taken into custody.
The woman was transported to a local hospital where both she and the unborn child are in stable condition.
