PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Portage has established a cooling center at the Portage Zhang Senior Center today until 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 7 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
It has plenty of seating and water available and the city is considering keeping it open additional days this week due to the hot weather.
A Heat Advisory is in effect for the area with heat index values up to 100-degrees expected.
People are being urged to drink plenty of water, stay in air conditioning, and avoid being outside in the sun as much as possible.
Hot temperatures and high humidity can cause heat illness, especially for seniors and people with chronic health conditions.
