KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two more suspicious house fires are under investigation by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
Around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street regarding the report of “a house on fire”. First arriving officers observed heavy smoke and flames showing.
KDPS says firefighting operations began immediately and firefighters on scene were able to confirm that the residence was vacant. The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes with no injuries reported.
Approximately 40 minutes later, while firefighters were concluding operations at the Walnut Street fire, they were dispatched to 100 Gladys Court for another structure fire. There was smoke and flames showing from the exterior when they arrived.
The residence was also found to be vacant. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, with no injuries reported.
Fire Marshal’s and detectives responded to both locations. KDPS says preliminary information indicates the fires are arson related due to them occurring within proximity to each other, and within 40 minutes of each other.
Two other vacant buildings and one other building were destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning. Those fires are also still under investigation.
