BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The National Cereal Festival, which is Battle Creek’s signature summer event celebrating its heritage as the birthplace of the cereal industry, is set to return to the downtown area on Friday.
Post Consumer Brands and WK Kellogg Co. are partnering for Friday afternoon’s Cereal Seal to raise money for the United Way of South Central Michigan. It will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Festival Market Square or until cereal supplies are sold out.
The annual Cereal City Parade will start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night. Numerous local businesses help sponsor the parade which will start at the Kool Family Community Center. It will go down VanBuren Street to McCamly Street where it will take McCamly to Michigan Avenue and then back to the Kool Center.
The family-friendly festival runs from 8:00 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturday. It features a variety of entertainment including live music, children’s activities and inflatables, not to mention free breakfast.
The Battle Creek YMCA will once again host the Cereal City Classic 5K/10K, on Saturday morning starting at 7:45 a.m..
The festival first took place in 1956 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Kellogg. It became an annual celebration in 1976.
