MENDON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Mendon woman was killed Thursday morning in a head-on St. Joseph County two vehicle crash.
St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says the crash was reported just after 8:00 a.m. on Silver Street, north of Pinhook Road in Mendon Township.
Bingaman reports that a preliminary investigation indicates a 24-year-old man from Reading was driving north on Silver Street when he struck a vehicle head-on.
The driver of the vehicle that was struck was identified as 45-year-old Melissa Hallack of Mendon, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Hallack was an assistant prosecutor with the St. Joseph County Prosecutors office.
The other driver was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. His name is being withheld, pending results of the ongoing investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office says alcohol is suspected in the crash.
