CASS COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A traffic stop in Cass County has led to the arrest of five people on weapon and drug charges.
The Cass County Drug Enforcement Team says one of their detectives Wednesday received information of a subject who was in possession of meth and driving a vehicle. After stopping the vehicle, police found the driver, a 46-year-old male from Dowagiac, in possession of several concealed illegal knives as well as meth.
A 39-year-old female passenger from Dowagiac was found to have a felony warrant for her and she was arrested on the warrant. A quantity of meth was also found on the female and she was arrested for possession of meth.
Both subjects were lodged at the Cass County Jail with the man being charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of meth, and the female being charged with possession of meth and her outstanding felony warrant.
As a result of the stop, officers were contacted by an Michigan Department of Corrections agent who advised them to check on several subjects currently on parole and probation. Officers located the subjects in the 100 block of North Front Street in Dowagiac and observed one subject with a handgun. He was taken into custody and was also found to be in possession of meth.
Officers located meth on two other men, with one also carrying the prescription Saboxone.
Police arrested a 30-year-old man from Dowagiac for carrying a concealed weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, felony firearm, and possession of meth, a 33-year-old man from Dowagiac for possession of meth and a 29-year-old male from Dowagiac for possession of meth and Saboxone.
All the suspects are lodged at the Cass County Jail. All charges are pending authorization from the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office.
The names of the suspects are being withheld pending their arraignment in Cass County 4th District Court.
