KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – In the wake of the tornado that struck Portage two weeks ago, The Salvation Army of Kalamazoo says it has served over 10,000 meals, 22,000 drinks, and more than 15,000 snacks to those affected by the damage, as well as providing shower facilities.
In partnership with Gryphon Place, The Salvation Army hosted a Multi-Agency Resource Center this past Friday, where 24 local agencies united to deliver essential services to those affected by the severe weather. They says this collaborative effort “underscored the power of community and the importance of coming together in times of crisis.”
Much of the aid has been provided to support the residents of Pavilion Estates, which suffered severe damage from the tornado. The Salvation Army mobile shower unit will continue to be stationed at First Assembly of God to provide further assistance.
In a news release Monday, Major Ronnie Amick, leader of The Salvation Army of Kalamazoo said, “The outpouring of support from our volunteers, donors, and partner agencies has been incredible. Our community’s resilience and compassion are truly inspiring, and we are dedicated to continuing our efforts to help those in need.”
