WACOUSTA, MI — A suspected drunk driver struck a group of 16 pedestrians on Saturday evening in Wacousta in Clinton County killing two and injuring the others. The female driver flad the scene but was apprehended several miles from the crash seen, police say.
The pedestrians were struck as they crossed the intersection of South Wacousta Road near Corrison Road at about 6:25 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. The woman is from the Perriton area, about 30 miles north of the crash scene, sheriff’s office said. The unidentified driver was expected to be arraigned Monday morning.
Police say killed in the crash were a 30-year-old Grand Haven man and a 42-year-old man from Grand Ledge. The surviving victims’ ages are: two 2-year-olds; a 3-year-old; two 6-year-olds; and those ages 7, 8, 16, 27, 28, 32, 33, 38, and 61, officials said. The pedestrians are all from the same extended family, police say. The victims’ names have not been released.
As of Monday morning six victims remain hospitalized, with one in critical condition, sheriff’s officials said. The other eight victims were released from the hospital.
