KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – While a series of utility relocations and upgrades started last week to prepare for the coming event center and future growth in downtown Kalamazoo downtown, some other road work has been completed.
City officials says the downtown utility work is being phased and coordinated with other projects to minimize disruption while improving water, sewer, storm water, gas, and electric utilities in the area. Work is currently underway on Westnedge Avenue between Michigan Avenue and Kalamazoo Avenue through June 7.
Among the spring construction that has been completed is the section of Whites Road between Parkview and Oakland. With the reopening comes new turning restrictions near Whites/Oakland intersection to prevent backups and improve flow. Vehicles can no longer turn left from Whites onto southbound Oakland and vehicles can no longer turn left from southbound Oakland to Whites.
The Burdick Street intersection has reopened to northbound and southbound traffic. With that intersection open, the project will now extend west to Park Street. It will not impact traffic on Park, but the intersections with Church and Rose will be closed.
