HOMER, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday afternoon to launch the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority’s radio tower project, which includes the construction of four new towers and repurposing of two.
The ceremony was held at the site of a tower that will be built in Homer.
This project has been made possible thanks to a 2022 voter-approved 911 millage and will make Dispatch in Calhoun County truly consolidated.
All of the technology will utilize the Michigan Public Safety Communications System which ensures that all agencies can easily speak to one another.
Currently, Calhoun County Fire Departments use an antiquated analog system that doesn’t have communication with many surrounding agencies. The current system also does not allow Dispatch to monitor fire department operations when they are on an incident.
Additionally, the construction of the towers in rural areas will allow for increased access to Dispatch.
