ALLEGAN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Allegan has received a million-dollars from the state’s Dam Risk Reduction Grant Program to repair the Allegan City Dam on the Kalamazoo River.
Allegan City Manager Joel Dye says eventually they want to remove the dam and restore the rapids that used to wash through the city but can’t yet.
The reason for that is the dam stops PCBs from flowing further downstream toward Lake Michigan.
The million-dollars from the state is less than the city requested, so Dye says they are going back to the plans for what they will do with the money to make needed repairs.
