KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer has issued a state of emergency for Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, Branch, and Cass counties after two tornadoes were confirmed in Portage. Another tornado was reported in Union City, south of Battle Creek and a fourth is under investigation.
176 homes were damaged at the Pavilion Estates Mobile Home Community and several destroyed in Portage, according to Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller.

A FedEx facility in Portage was also heavily damaged and people were trapped inside for a time.
Portage Public Schools have canceled classes for today.
Consumers Energy has about 24,000 without power.
