KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A new report from the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense is calling for more action by all levels of the government to strengthen biodefense measures.
Former Congressman Fred Upton is on the commission and joined WKZO’s Ken Lanphear to discuss the report.
He says another pandemic will come and we can’t be caught off guard like with COVID-19 in March 2020.
Upton says it will cost billions of dollars to be prepared, but says that is much less than what it would cost if nothing happens.
He says they are calling on the White House to have the national security advisor lead the biodefense efforts and to establish a deputy adviser to essentially quarterback daily duties and responsibilities.
