PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage city council took a deep dive into their budget yesterday, and residents can expect to dive a little deeper into their pockets to pay their city bills.
The millage rate won’t be changing.
It’s water and sewer rates that are going up. Customers connected to Portage city utilities will see their water bills increase by just over 6% and sewer bills jump by about 10%.
It would cost homeowners about $5.86 more per month.
Councilmember Chris Burns sat on that Utilities Rate Study Committee and says the report is now available at the city’s website.
Audio PlayerHe says the committee also recommends that the city do something to help those who can’t handle the increases.
Audio PlayerThe matter will be discussed further at the council’s second budget work session on May 14th.
