KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 16-year-old Kalamazoo Central High School student is in custody after reportedly bringing a loaded handgun to school Monday.
At approximately 2:00 p.m., officers with the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to Kalamazoo Central High School on North Drake Road to assist school staff for a report of a student who was believed to be in possession of a firearm.
They say they discovered the student was in possession of a stolen firearm. The firearm was loaded when it was recovered, however there was no report of injuries to students or staff.
The student was taken into custody and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home. Township police did not say how the student obtained the stolen handgun.
The case is being forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Attorney’s Office for review of criminal charges for Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Receiving and Concealing Stolen Property, and Weapons Free School Zone Violation.
This case remains under investigation.
