BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – The City of Battle Creek is inviting residents to a series of meetings about a proposal to upgrade and reimagine the city’s fire station buildings.
A press release from the city said the most significant changes surround the historic, 100-plus-year-old Station 2 on Washington Avenue and Station 3 on Cliff Street, which are no longer suitable as modern fire station buildings.
A new Station 2 building is being proposed near the current location. In addition, there is a proposal to close Station 3, moving that crew to join the crew at Station 1 on East Michigan Avenue.
New images and cost estimates for each fire station will be presented at each of the meetings and there will be time for opinions and feedback from the public.
City Manager Rebecca Fleury, Fire Chief Bill Beaty, and Architect Cody Newman of Driven Design Studio will be on hand.
The first meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 17 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Station 1 at 195 East Michigan Avenue. AccessVision will record this conversation for later online and cable broadcast.
