KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – With assistance from over 60 volunteers involved in the tourism business statewide, work on a new wiffle ball field began at Mayor’s Riverfront Park in Kalamazoo Tuesday.
The group Michigan Cares for Tourism, in conjunction with Kalsee Credit Union, constructed the new field just outside the Kalamazoo Growlers’ stadium.
The field is made of recycled turf from nearby Gull Lake High School for what will be named the Kalsee Credit Union Wiffle Ball Field, an extension of the Kalsee Credit Union Kub Zone. The project is expected to be completed by the Growlers’ home opener May 27. The field will be used by the Kalamazoo Wiffle League and will also be open to the public year-round.
Michigan Cares for Tourism is a statewide volunteer non-profit that coordinates tourism professionals to come together and help enhance Michigan’s historic, natural and cultural attractions. They say their projects build a stronger tourism community while volunteers learn more about Michigan destinations.
The 2024 Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism is being held through Thursday at the Radisson Plaza Hotel downtown Kalamazoo.
