CHARLOTTE, MI — An Eaton County jury took only a couple of hours on Monday to convict a 63-year-old- woman in the killing of her husband over 20 years ago.
Beverly McCallum was found guilty of second-degree murder and disinterment and mutilation of a body. Those charges stemmed from the murder of Roberto Caraballo. His burned remains were discovered buried inside a footlocker in an Ottawa County field in 2002.
McCallum isn’t the only person going to prison for the crime. Her oldest daugher, Dineane Ducharme, and Ducharme’s friend, Christopher McMillan, have already been convicted on murder charges in Caraballo’s death. McCallum was arrested in Italy in 2020 and returned to Michigan to face trial. She’ll be sentenced on May 23 and faces up to life in prison.
