WHITE PIGEON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Sturgis man was killed early Saturday morning in a St. Joseph County head on crash.
Undersheriff Jason Bingaman reports the crash happened just after 2:00 a.m. on Fawn River Road near Mill Pond Road.
When deputies arrived, 26-year-old Clayton Danial Whitcomb was found pinned in his vehicle. He was subsequently pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the crash.
28-year-old Dylan James Schlabach of Lagrange, Indiana sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Parkview Lagrange Hospital.
The Sheriff’s Department says a preliminary investigation shows Whitcomb was east bound on Fawn River Road when he crossed the center line and went into the path of Schlabach who was heading west.
They say seatbelts were not being worn at the time of the crash and speed may have been a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Constantine Police Department, White Pigeon Fire Department, Lifecare Ambulance, Western Michigan University Medical Examiners Office, Farrand Funeral Home, and Bowers Wrecker Service.
