COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Road Commission of Kalamazoo County this month is moving into a new seven building $65 million complex that includes offices, vehicle storage, and a road salt storage facility.
Work on the facility at 4400 South 26th Street in Comstock Township, about one mile west of the current facility in the City of Kalamazoo, began two years ago. Road commission officials say they had long outgrown the previous facility, both in housing employees and equipment size.
Road Commission of Kalamazoo County Communications Administrator Sarah Phillips says bond proceeds totaling about $55 million were used to help fund the project and will be paid back in the coming years using Michigan Transportation Fund dollars.
The road commission will host a public open house and guided tours at the new facility Thursday, March 21 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
