KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – 400 high school students representing 28 schools from across the state will compete in the statewide ProStart Competition this weekend this coming Sunday and Monday in Kalamazoo for a chance to earn a spot at the National ProStart Invitational in Baltimore, Maryland and a chance at $850,000 in scholarships for winning competitors.
Organizers say the ProStart Competition is the highest level of competition for Michigan high school students who are training for careers in the restaurant and hospitality industry.
Students showcase their proficiency in different categories, such as Cake Decorating, Knowledge Bowl, Knife Cuts, Culinary, Management, Nutrition, Tabletop Design, and Pasta.
During the competition at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo Sunday and Monday, students will demonstrate their skills in food safety, business management, marketing, and menu development.
