KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Broncos Kitchen, a non-profit organization that has been providing free dinners to food insecure Western Michigan University, is celebrating its 12th anniversary by holding a special dinner celebration Thursday.
The event will be held at their Wesley Foundation meal site, located at 2350 Ring Road North, across from Western Michigan University from 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Since its inception in 2012, Broncos Kitchen has expanded to include students from Kalamazoo College and Kalamazoo Valley Community College. In 2020, the organization also began providing free meals outside during the COVID-19 crisis.
To honor the volunteers, donors, and sponsors who have helped Broncos Kitchen achieve its mission, an awards ceremony will be held prior to the dinner. Among the honorees will be Courtney Hubert Tortorelli, a WMU junior and volunteer, who will receive the Joan Lafayette Volunteer of the Year Award for her efforts in helping Broncos Kitchen achieve its goal of ending student hunger.
The dinner will feature a free steak dinner with baked potatoes, salad, dinner rolls, dessert, and beverages. A vegetarian entree will also be served.
Donations for the organization can be made through Broncos Kitchen Foundation, P.O. Box 2632, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49003, or donate online at www.broncoskitchen.org.
