FABIUS TWP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A Friday head on crash on U.S. 131 near M-60 in St. Joseph County took the life of a 66-year-old man from Constantine along with two dogs riding in the vehicle with him.
Michigan State Police say the fatal victim was driving a Ford Escape south on 131 when it crossed the center lane into the north bound lanes.
The driver of a northbound semi tractor-trailer attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to do so.
The Constantine man and the two dogs were declared dead at the scene.
The 60-year-old driver of the semi was not injured.
Seatbelts were worn by both drivers. The crash remains under investigation.
The Michigan State Police were assisted by the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, the Three Rivers Police Department, fire departments from Three Rivers and Fabius Township, the Michigan Department of Transportation, Bower’s Towing and Shears Wrecker Service.
