PAW PAW, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Abbott says a deputy is very lucky to be alive after a semi truck disregarded road flares and flashing lights to signal Interstate 94 was closed around 2 a.m. January 23rd.
Abbott has released dash cam video of the truck speeding past the deputy’s vehicle as he was putting out flares in response to a crash between three other semis and a minivan.
The deputy ran into the median after his partner yelled to him to get out of the way when he saw the truck coming.
It happened near Exit 60 for Paw Paw the day before Michigan State Police Trooper Joel Popp was hit and killed doing a traffic stop on I-75 in Saginaw County.
