KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Officials with the Ecumenical Senior Center (ESC) in Kalamazoo say their Capital Building Campaign received a major boost recently with a $4 million grant from the Stryker Johnston Foundation.
In July 2022 the center launched their campaign to increase program space by up to 12,000 square feet.
They say this latest gift will allow them to create a significantly larger state-of-the-art facility serving the aging population in the City of Kalamazoo and surrounding areas for generations to come.
ESC Executive Director Tim Barnes says, “This year represents our 40th anniversary of serving the needs of seniors throughout Kalamazoo County. The outpouring of support has been tremendous for this campaign and is a testament to the many people who have made it possible to continue this important work.”
Major campaign funding has also come from the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation, ENNA Foundation and the Suzanne Upjohn Delano Parish Foundation.
ESC is a multi-faceted senior activity center located in the Northside neighborhood of Kalamazoo, with a focus on providing support for low-income and minority seniors, providing a variety of activities and services.
The current location at 492 North Burdick Street has been in operation since 1983 and has utilized the current 4,000 square feet of space since 1992.
