PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Portage’s mayor is pulling the plug on a citizen’s task force formed last year when citizen opposition to proposed developments near Austin Lake erupted.
It has also been announced that the smaller of the two developments, the Stanley/Woodbine project will now be moving forward.
The Lake Center Task Force held their second and final meeting recently and member Michael Cartier says from now on the process of introducing new developments will be more transparent.
Mayor Patricia Randall says the compromises reached are good ones.
The Stanley-Woodbine Project now includes plans for 50 single family homes on a parcel of land just to the west of Austin Lake off Portage Road.
The second proposal, which was for nearly 700 new units just to the north of the lake was withdrawn by the developer, but could be modified and resubmitted.
