KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Another obstacle to Kalamazoo’s new downtown arena may be cleared this evening, if city commissioners agree to vacate two streets in the Arcadia Creek area.
The proposal would be to close two blocks of Eleanor Street between Park and Westnedge and one block of Cooley, between Kalamazoo and Eleanor.
Assistant city planner Bobby Durkee says the group behind the development, CD Arena LLC. will have 60 days to pay for the properties for the process to move forward.
The city will have to receive plans that the project is moving forward, and the actual elimination of the street requires more than just tearing up the pavement.
It’s just another step in the long process to make the arena a reality.
