KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says officers responded to three separate reports of shots fired within a four-hour window of time over the weekend, but say whether those events are related in any way is just one of many questions that detectives are trying to answer.
At this point, no arrests have been made.
Saturday at about 11:00 p.m., officers responded to the report of multiple gun shots in the 900 block of Royce Avenue. On arrival, officers found a 27-year-old male from Kalamazoo suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately rendered emergency medical aid and worked with paramedics to transport the victim to an area hospital. At this time, the victim is listed in critical condition.
Officers and the KDPS Crime Lab recovered approximately 50 shell casings from the scene. They also identified 2 homes and 4 vehicles that had been stuck by gunfire.
Sunday at about 1:30 a.m., officers responded to the report of shots fired in the 1100 block of Cobb Avenue. When they arrived on that scene, they found a 37-year-old female from Kalamazoo suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Approximately 10 shell casings were recovered from the scene.
Then Sunday shortly after 3:00 a.m., officers responded to the report of shots fired in the 600 block of East Michigan Avenue. They found evidence that several shots had been fired in the area, and located structures and vehicles that had been hit by gunfire. No one was injured in that incident.
