KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public School trustees have cleaned up the language in their attendance policy so it now conforms with some of the reforms brought to the district by superintendent Darrin Slade.
They formally approved the revised policy last night.
Trustee Jenny Hill is the Policy Subcommittee chair and here is a portion of it.
Dr. Slade has set up attendance committees in every school, is requiring chronic truants to justify their absences, knocking on their doors to talk to parents and taking other measures to cut down on truancy.
Slade says the vast majority of their students show up on time everyday, it’s just a few who don’t.
