CHARLESTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Three suspects are in custody after leading police on a high speed chase in Kalamazoo County Monday morning, that also included one suspect trying to wrestle a weapon away from a sheriff’s deputy.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says deputies started their pursuit after an incident that began in the City of Portage. During the pursuit on I-94 the suspects crashed and fled from the vehicle near Galesburg. A K-9 track ensued; however the suspects were able to elude
capture.
Around 5:30 a.m. deputies responded to the area of Mercury Drive and East Michigan Avenue in Charleston Township on a report of suspicious subjects attempting to flag down motorists. Upon arrival the initial responding deputy became engaged in a struggle with one subject who resisted arrest. During the struggle the suspect allegedly attempted to disarm the deputy.
Eventually, all three subjects were taken into custody with assistance of responding officers from Battle Creek City Police, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, and Michigan State Police.
