BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Former Battle Creek landlord Chad Allen Reed was ordered to serve the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole on Friday after he killed two tenants in October of 2020.
The 56-year-old Reed was convicted of first and second degree murder in the deaths of 34-year-old Joseph Soule and 31-year-old Jaclyn Lepird.
The two were living with their landlord at an apartment on Post Avenue in Battle Creek. Police said at the time they had an “ongoing dispute.”
Reed admitted to killing the couple after he and Soule got into an argument. Reed claimed he shot and killed Soule in self-defense when Soule pulled a knife.
He then chased down and killed Lepird when she tried to run away.
The bodies were wrapped in plastic and hidden in his truck in an abandoned garage. They were found just over a week after Soule and Lepird were reported missing.
