KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo’s 55th City Commission took their seats for the first time with one new face on the commission this year.
Mayor David Anderson, incumbents Jeanne Hess and Chris Preadel, and newcomer Alonzo Wilson II each took their oaths of office Monday afternoon.
Anderson says he feels the election results were a vote for hope, one that he shares.
Wilson, who is the first Kalamazoo Public Schools Promise Scholar to win local election, says he hopes he can be an example for others, and encourage them to also take advantage of the college tuition program.
Because Hess was the top vote getter, she became Vice-Mayor for the next two years.
There was no honeymoon period for the new City Commission. They went right to work last night on a long agenda that took nearly three hours to get through and then went into a closed session.
And it won’t let up with the 2024 budget proposal arriving December 1, due for final approval in January 2024.
