CARACAS (Reuters) – Venezuela’s attorney general Tarek Saab said on Wednesday his office has launched a criminal investigation into the opposition’s weekend presidential primary on accusations of electoral violations, financial crimes and conspiracy and will interview two members of the organizing committee.
The opposition has said repeatedly that the vote to choose their candidate for the 2024 election – which was won by Maria Corina Machado and attracted more than 2.3 million voters – was transparent and fair.
