LANSING, MI — A two-year-old is hospitalized and a 44-year-old man is in police custody after an accidental shooting at a gas station in Lansing Tuesday afternoon.
Lansing Police says the two-year-old boy was injured by a self-inflicted gunshot wound outside the Sunoco gas station on Dunckel Road just west of US-127 in Lansing just after 3:00 p.m.
Police believe the child was alone in a car but gained access to an unsecured firearm and shot himself. Shortly after the shooting, a single suspect fled the scene on foot and and was arrested by police. That suspect is a 44-year-old male whose relationship to the young boy has not been released by police. Police say the firearm has not been recovered.
