KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – After months of delays in opening, Western Michigan University will celebrate the grand opening of the new WMU Student Center Tuesday afternoon.
The ceremony will be held at 2:15 p.m. at the Sangren Plaza entrance, with the open house continuing until 6:00 p.m.
The event will feature live music, an appearance by the Bronco Marching Band, free food, a photo booth, and guided tours every 30 minutes.
The new building replaces the John T. Bernhard Center, which served as a central hub for students, offering food options, meeting spaces, and the Bronco Bookstore since 1957.
The new $60 million Student Center and Dining Facility is located in the Hilltop Village.
The new center features restaurants, a pub, shops, unique gathering spaces, lounges, and a student art gallery.
Fall classes for WMU students officially begin Wednesday.
