KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Extreme heat is set to move back into Southwest Michigan on Wednesday, August 23. And forecasters say that heat will bring with it ‘feel like’ temperatures of 100 degrees in some locations.
They go onto say that a heat advisory will be in effect for the majority of West Michigan starting at 12 p.m. Wednesday through 2 or 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 24 depending on the county.
An Excessive Heat Watch has also issued been Thursday for counties on the Michigan/Indian line where the Heat Index could reach up to 110 degrees according to the National Weather Service.
And with the Heat Index likely to reach 106 degrees on Thursday, health experts are warning residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in the air condition and out of the sun as heat exhaustion and heat stroke are possible in these conditions.
They suggest postponing outdoor activities to early morning or evening along with wearing lightweight loose fitting clothing if possible.
