PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage City Council planning an early session on Tuesday, August 8 to advance their plan for the creation of a dedicated stand-alone Farmers Market.
According to city officials, the current markets which are held on weekends in the City Hall Parking lot, have outgrown that space.
So far, the Council looked at four possible sites, and has asked staff to also consider other locations as well.
Mayor Patricia Randall says Tuesday’s special meeting will permit them to fully discuss their options.
“The only topic that we’ll be talking about is the Farmers Market, and typically, staff comes forward with information and council can ask a lot deeper questions,” said Randall.
The work session will get underway at 5pm Tuesday at Portage City Hall.
At this stage, the proposal has no budget, no final plan on amenities or a timetable as all of that will depend on the site they pick. The city has tentatively received funding from the state to help build it, if and when they do have a location and a plan.
