PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A complaint has been made that Portage Mayoral candidate Lisa Brayton was not truthful when she filled out her application to run for the city’s top elected position.
Brayton, who is currently a City Council Member, listed her residence as an address on East Shore Drive. The unsigned complaint charges there is no home at that location, just a construction site, and that Brayton has never resided there.
County Clerk Meredith Place says it is the City of Portage’s responsibility to verify the information on the candidate’s Affidavit of Identification, and Portage Spokesperson Mary Beth Block says they aren’t quite sure what their next step is.
Clerk Place did verify that the address given matches Brayton’s voter registration form, as giving false information on the Affidavit could be grounds for disqualification.
