PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It’s Mill & Fill time for the streets once again in Portage.
The City says it’s Mill & Fill Program is scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 3 in the southeast portion of the city.
According to city officials, the program will involve major maintenance on selected streets to enhance the structural integrity and ride quality, as well as prolong the life of the street. This includes the removal of badly worn areas of the road and overlaying the surface with two inches of new asphalt.
The following locations are scheduled for this project: Woody Knoll Drive (Andrews to cul-de-sac) and Andrews Street (Mandigo to Woody Knoll).
They go onto say that one lane of travel will remain open at all times during pavement operations, and are also requesting that vehicles be removed from the roadway during the work to ensure the safety of residents and contract employees.
Also, a “tac coat”, or an oily substance will be sprayed on the street in order to bond the new asphalt to the old surface, so drivers should avoid traveling on this as much as possible as the material may attach to tires and vehicle undercarriages and may be carried onto driveways or garage floors.
City officials say the Mill & Fill Program is an important investment in the infrastructure of Portage, and that the city appreciates the patience and cooperation of its residents during the construction process.
Questions concerning the work should be directed the City of Portage’s Department of Public Works at 269-329-4444.
