BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – Two persons suffered what were described as minor injuries early Tuesday morning when a fire broke out at a home in the 100 block of Caine Street near Post Avenue.
The Battle Creek Fire Department says the fire was reported at 1:22 a.m..
Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the second floor. The fire was quickly extinguished.
It was determined that the fire was caused by someone dumping cigarettes into a trash basket in a second floor bathroom.
One of the home occupants jumped from the second-story window to escape the fire and sustained minor injuries to her hand.
Another occupant hurt his wrist while exiting the structure through the front door.
Both went to a nearby hospital for treatment.
