BATTLE CREEK, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – After seeing some slight improvements in the area, fire officials for the City of Battle Creek on Thursday lifted the open burn ban, effective immediately.
Battle Creek Fire Marshal Quincy Jones announced the burn ban on June 6 due to the dry conditions.
The lifting of the burn ban means Battle Creek residents may once again burn some yard waste but not leaves, enjoy a recreational fire at home, purchase a burn permit for $25 from the Clerk’s Office at City Hall and use an existing and current burn permit if they already have one.
Because conditions are still extremely dry and Calhoun County is considered to be in a moderate drought, residents are being asked to use caution when burning yard waste, enjoying a campfire or grilling food outside.
Even with a burn permit, the Battle Creek Fire Department can request you extinguish any fire, if they receive smoke or smell complaints.
As a reminder, fireworks are allowed around the Independence Day holiday from June 29 to July 4, from 11 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. each day.
