LANSING, MI — A bill passed out of committee in Lansing Tuesday in Lansing would rename a section of a major Lansing-area highway for a fallen Michigan State Police trooper.
House Bill 4689 would designate U.S. 127 from Kipp Road to Interstate 96 as “Trooper Starr Memorial Highway,” in honor of Caleb Starr. Trooper Starr died in a head-on crash near Saranac in July 2020.
Starr was assigned to the Lakeview Post at the time of the accident. The trooper was en route to a call when another driver crossed the center line on Grand River Avenue near Saranac and collided with his cruiser in July 2020. He died in a hospital some three weeks later.
The bill was passed out of the Transportation, Mobility and Infrastructure Committee and will now proceed to a vote in the House of Representatives.
