CASS COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan State Police at the Niles Post say alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the death of the passenger in a vehicle that ran off the road Thursday night in Cass County.
The single vehicle crash happened around 11:00 p.m. on Daily Rd near Yankee Street in Jefferson Township.
Troopers say their preliminary investigation shows the driver of a car was traveling south on Daily Road, lost control, and ran off the roadway and struck a tree.
The passenger, 19-year-old Tabor Lock of Niles was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver, a 20-year-old Edwardsburg man, was taken to South Bend Memorial for serious injuries.
Seatbelts were worn by both occupants, although police say alcohol and speed appear to be a factor in the crash.
