KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan State Police are searching for the mother and a woman they say abandoned her vulnerable adult daughter in the Al Sabo Land Preserve in Texas Township near Portage over a month ago.
Authorities say the daughter, 22-year-old Takai Crute boarded a Kalamazoo Metro Transit bus with her mother, 50-year-old Angela Clarissa Crute, and an unknown woman around 7:10 a.m. on Thursday, April 20.
They exited the bus on O Avenue where they walked behind Kalamazoo Valley Community College where they accessed the Al Sabo land preserve.
The party of three was then noticed by a maintenance worker who asked them what they were doing, to which Crute’s mother said that she and her sister were taking Takai for a walk. Becoming suspicious, the worker reported the interaction to the KVCC Police Department.
Officers then searched the area but could not locate the group. Takai was subsequently found alone by a hiker around 6:40 p.m. that same day and was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital for treatment.
She was initially labeled a missing Jane Doe by law enforcement due to her inability to communicate effectively with both police and hospital staff.
Due to a flood of tips from the public, Michigan State Police were able to positively identify her three days later on Sunday, April 23.
Authorities are now seeking information on the mother who they say is from the Richmond, VA area along with the unknown female who they say was wearing a black U.S. Army hoodie during the April 20 incident.
They’re asking anyone with information about the unknown woman or location of Angela Crute to to call the MSP Tip Line at 844-642-8384 or email msp-51tips@michigan.gov.
Tips can also be called into Kalamazoo Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
