PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a 17-year-old juvenile following a crash, a foot chase, along with the recovery of a stolen handgun.
It all began just a few minutes past midnight on North Avenue near Coolidge Avenue early Sunday morning, April 23 when sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling without it’s headlights on.
The vehicle fled from deputies turning west on Maryland Drive where it accelerated. Deputies saw the vehicle attempt to turn south onto Redner Avenue, but due to it’s speed, if failed to make the turn. The vehicle then crashed through a fence and came to rest in the front yard of a residence.
The vehicle’s two occupants then fled on foot. Deputies were able to take the driver into custody, however the passenger was not located. The 17-year-old driver sustained minor injuries from the crash.
Deputies also found a loaded stolen handgun as they were canvassing the area where the suspects fled to.
The incident is set to be reviewed by the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office.
