PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Portage may allow drive-thru windows at marijuana shops, although some Portage City Council members have concerns.
The City Council Tuesday approved the first reading of ordinance changes that would allow the drive-thru windows if they conform to city zoning. It’s an outgrowth of an emergency pandemic order that allowed curbside and drive-thru sales and was never reversed by the state. The city ordinance banning them was never changed either.
Council members Terry Urban and Lisa Braton have reservations about the idea.
Provisioning store operator Jevin Weyenberg says they aren’t asking for anything that isn’t already allowed at drug stores.
The City Council will also be asked to continue a ban on outdoor growing operations and ask to change the way the word marijuana is spelled in their ordinance, removing the “H” and replacing it with a “J” to conform with the state’s decision to spell it that way.
The questions will on their May 6 agenda for a final vote.
